Description of the job
- Location - Canberra, ACT
- Security Clearance - Australian Citizens with minimum NV1 Clearance
- Length of Contract - 6 weeks (12 months extension options)
- Closing Date - 26/08/2025
- Lead and supervise the Civil Maritime Safety Section, ensuring effective performance and development.
- Drive a safety culture within the civil maritime environment.
- Provide subject matter expertise on civil maritime safety issues to Departmental teams and stakeholders.
- Enhance civil maritime safety reporting and assurance, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulation, standards and best practices.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks within the civil maritime environment.
- Implement and manage a program of safety assurance, investigations, inspections and training across the fleet.
- Investigate safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Effectively communicate safety information to stakeholders, including staff, management, and external parties.
- Training replacement resource.
- Extensive experience in maritime safety management or auditing compliance.
- Strong understanding of Defence safety management frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of marine safety legislation, Commonwealth work health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Familiarity with safety principles and best practices and understanding of risk assessment and management.
- Project and risk management skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong computer and administration skills, including attention to detail.
- Experience with Comcare engagement is desirable.
