Overview:

  • Full-time, Continuing position

  • Salary HEW 7 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About The Position

The Equitable Learning Advisor is responsible for identifying and coordinating the support needs of students with diverse disabilities, long-term health conditions, mental health concerns, or those who are primary carers for someone with a disability, to ensure equitable participation in their academic programs. The position works collaboratively with students, academic and professional staff across RMIT—including Vocational and Higher Education, RMIT Training, RMIT Online, and international partner institutions.

A key responsibility is to interpret and apply a range of policies and procedures related to learning, teaching, and assessment, providing clear, tailored advice to both students and staff. This requires the ability to quickly and thoroughly understand the university’s operations, policies, and systems.

The position maintains a caseload of students with complex needs and operates with a high degree of autonomy in managing, scheduling, and prioritising work. Tasks may also be assigned by the Manager in response to emerging needs.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Significant experience working with students with disabilities, long-term illnesses and/or mental health conditions.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster independence amongst tertiary students with disabilities, long-term illnesses and/or mental health conditions.

  • Proven ability to assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities, long-term illnesses and/or mental health conditions and determine reasonable adjustments, including the application of assistive technology, to support these students to succeed in their studies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of inclusive practice approaches in teaching and assessment.

  • Knowledge of disability-related legislation particularly in relation to education (or demonstrated ability to acquire such knowledge).

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to exert influence, negotiate, and effectively mediate to resolve stakeholder conflicts.

  • Strong organisational skills including a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work effectively and efficiently under pressure.

  • Proven ability to work independently, and to contribute positively and proactively to the team’s work.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, and the ability to lead and adapt positively to constant change.

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, inclusion and reconciliation.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
