About the role

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity for a Policy Officer to join the Aboriginal joint management, partnerships and heritage team. This team is responsible for the central coordination and support for NPWS partnerships with Aboriginal communities to jointly manage national parks and reserves across the State. As part of NPWS, you will contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment and Aboriginal cultural heritage.

As a Policy Officer Aboriginal Joint Management, you will undertake policy development for current and future Aboriginal joint management of the national park estate.

The role involves providing analysis and advice to support important NSW Government policy initiatives, including development of joint management agreements and Closing the Gap commitments.

About You

We are looking for a dynamic policy officer who is:

  • An analytical thinker, ready to take on complex issues and consider multiple perspectives
  • An effective communicator, able to distil key messages and provide clear advice and guidance for various audiences
  • Experienced or wanting to strengthen their cultural capabilities and engagement with Aboriginal community members and other stakeholders
  • Excited to work as part of a team to progress and enhance Aboriginal joint management of national parks and reserves.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in working in a policy environment including policy analysis, development and review.
  • Experience in data collection and research skills with the ability to synthesise information that influences change.
  • Experience in communication and engagement with stakeholders, including Aboriginal communities.
  • Sound understanding of the machinery of government, the policy process and key legislation underpinning the operations of the Agency.
