About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Project Officer to lead a dedicated team responsible for supporting and coordinating weed management programs across NSW national parks.

The role leads, develops, and supports implementation of the NPWS Weed Management Strategy in partnership with other teams in the unit and across NPWS.

The Senior Project Officer coordinates the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and standards for weed management, including risk assessment, monitoring, and data management. This role supports the allocation of delivery targets and reporting, ensuring alignment with government and NPWS strategies.

Key duties include supporting the development and maintenance of weed control plans, weed monitoring plans, data management systems, and knowledge strategies to support NPWS weed management.

Your passion for your community and environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail and proficiency in project management and leadership will be key to your success in this role.

Your attention to detail and proficiency in planning, data management, and reporting enable you to support effective resource allocation and demonstrate program success. You are committed to continuous improvement and enjoy mentoring and leading teams to uphold best practices in weed management. Well-versed in legislative and regulatory requirements, you are adept at translating complex information into actionable strategies and providing guidance to staff at all levels.

Your passion for environmental stewardship, innovation, and effective communication ensures you will lead NPWS weed management initiatives with diligence, expertise, and integrity.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
  • Project management skills and experience with an understanding of contemporary best practice in procurement, tendering and contract preparation, in managing project teams, consultants and contractors, and in applying environmental safety and risk management policies and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs, and in providing strategic and operational advice and recommendations to senior management.
