Our team
The Minerals, Energy and Groundwater Division and the Space Division are both looking for an Executive Officer to provide a range of high-level executive, secretariat and project support services to the Chief of Division, including developing strategic advice, managing communications and implementing strategies to achieve divisional and/or organisational strategic and operational objectives.

The key duties of the position include
In this role, you will be required to understand the organisational context and take initiative to meet divisional objectives. You will perform a leadership role in helping implement the strategic direction of the division. You will exercise sound judgement to provide advice and create solutions to complex issues. You will need to build and maintain strong relationships with employees, the division's Senior Management Team, Geoscience Australia's Executive, and key stakeholders based on credibility, approach and personal commitment to finding common ground and delivering value

The role requires enthusiasm, flexibility and excellent organisation and communication skills in order to progress complex and often competing tasks in a fast-paced and diverse environment.

In this role you will:

  • provide high level support to the office of the Chief of Division, and work with other business areas and executives to implement strategic and operational initiatives
  • oversee, review and report on the functions, activities and efficacy of the division as necessary to ensure that it is operating effectively and delivering value to the organisation
  • be a contact and facilitation point for staff and stakeholders
  • identify and address potential opportunities, risks and emerging issues across the organisation that affect the division
  • manage preparation for divisional communications, forums and events
  • prepare correspondence, briefs, documentation, reports and submissions, including on complex and/or sensitive issues, and drive work to completion in a timely manner
  • have an ability to engage with and influence key internal stakeholders
  • provide secretariat services as required.

To be successful in the role you will:
  • have an ability to understand the strategic objectives of the organisation and division to inform decisions and advice
  • identify problems and assess their significance; take appropriate action to resolve them by exploring various possibilities and generating solutions
  • contribute own expertise and tap into the technical and/or professional knowledge and experience of others, harnessing diverse views to improve work outcomes
  • deal positively with uncertainty and cope effectively in an environment characterised by change
  • manage competing priorities and maintain focus on quality to achieve key outcomes
  • anticipate the needs of the Chief and the division's Senior Management Team, and provide courteous, prompt and professional service to them
  • explain complex information using language appropriate for the intended audience
  • promote and uphold workplace practices consistent the Australian Public Service Values.
