Description of the job
This critical leadership position is responsible for leading and directing a team to coordinate key enhancements, projects, and operational support provided by Digital Canberra and other vendors. As the head of IT service management and operational delivery, you will set the vision and strategy for service management while ensuring the efficient coordination of business-enabling applications for the ACT Education Directorate. You will also ensure that processes are effectively owned, developed, and matured.
You will adopt a user-centric approach to ICT operations, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of business issues, events, and activities and their broader implications and long-term impacts. With a focus on outcomes rather than activities, you will possess an in-depth understanding of Service Management Framework principles and processes, applying these to embed critical capabilities across the Directorate.
You will have a continual improvement mindset, analysing current processes to identify and implement opportunities for optimisation. You will also lead and develop a team of experts to deliver measurable service improvements. Additionally, you will possess a deep understanding of ICT asset and configuration management principles.
A key focus of this role is ensuring the seamless delivery of ICT services to approximately 90 public schools, 50,000 students, 8,000 teachers, and 500 central office staff. This broad role encompasses various operational responsibilities, including transition and organisational change management, project and enhancement management, as well as oversight of delivery partners and software vendors.
The section plays a pivotal role in embedding information security and privacy principles within the design of modern, agile, and highly automated digital processes. By implementing "security in-depth" principles, you will help transform learning technologies into trusted tools for educators.
You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver targeted, systematic, and whole-of-government digital initiatives. These initiatives will empower teachers and non-teaching staff to access the best tools for engaging students, meeting compliance requirements, and delivering exceptional student experiences.
To excel in this role, you will have at least five years’ experience in program management and ICT operations. You will have demonstrated experience in leading large, diverse teams to achieve ICT outcomes. Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the ACT Education Directorate’s Strategic Plan and the Future of Education Strategy is essential.
Ideally, you will have a solid understanding of the challenges associated with digital transformation in the education sector and the ability to identify and apply emerging technologies to accelerate transformation goals.
Finally, you bring resilience, tact, and a sense of humour to your work. You are adept at juggling priorities, wearing multiple hats, and are passionate about making a meaningful difference.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Demonstrated expertise in project management, including advanced time management and prioritisation skills.
- Proven experience in coordinating human resources and managing financial responsibilities.
- Relevant qualifications in IT, education, or a related field.
- Extensive experience managing ICT and business applications in an educational setting is highly valued.
